Around 90 suspicious UPI transactions, ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹4,500 each, were detected on the mobile phones of staff at the LB Nagar Fire Station during a surprise check by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday, November 6.

The transactions had taken place during the preceding week amid allegations that fire station personnel were collecting amounts higher than the prescribed fee for issuing temporary firecracker shop licences. The prescribed online fee for a temporary licence is ₹500. The ACB found that nearly 397 applications had been received for such licences, of which 26 were still pending.

The bureau is probing the reasons for the delay in processing the applications and examining the alleged collection of excess amounts. The ACB has appealed to the public to report any demand for money beyond the prescribed fee or unexplained delays in processing applications. Complaints can be made through its toll-free number 1064 or WhatsApp number 9440446106.
