His resignation was effective Friday, according to a statement he posted on X, in which he described serving in the role as an honour.He resigned under pressure from Justice Department leadership, despite his willingness to pursue some of the investigations sought by Trump, people familiar with the matter told CNN.As the top federal prosecutor in Miami, Quinones was responsible for an office involved in examining earlier investigations into Trump. These included the federal probe into his handling of classified documents after leaving office in 2021 and inquiries into contacts between his 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.The investigations formed part of the Trump administration's efforts to revisit earlier criminal inquiries involving the president and his political adversaries. However, those efforts have not produced the results sought so far, Reuters reported.Blanche confirmed Quinones' departure in an X post on Friday, thanking him for his service. “The Department is grateful for Jason’s leadership,” the attorney general wrote.Quinones' resignation follows that of John Eisenberg, who headed the Justice Department's National Security Division and also announced his departure on Friday.He is the second senior department official to leave since the midterm elections. Harmeet Dhillon, who led the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, resigned on Thursday.Quiñones' office had also brought criminal charges against former Cuban president Raul Castro, marking an escalation in the administration's pressure campaign against Cuba.

They are GOLD, and only foolish leadership will say 'NO' to the riches they bring!" he wrote.Trump's remarks come days after voters in several parts of the country backed measures seeking to restrict or temporarily halt data centre construction, highlighting rising concerns about the impact of the AI boom on local communities.Growing resistance to AI infrastructure expansionAccording to Axios, nearly two dozen of 41 data centre-related ballot measures across 10 states appeared headed for approval based on preliminary results from Tuesday's midterm elections. Several of these measures sought restrictions or temporary pauses on new construction.The resistance reflects concerns that the rapid expansion of data centres, which require enormous amounts of electricity and water, could increase utility bills, strain local resources and affect the environment.The election results could complicate plans for an estimated $10 trillion expansion of AI infrastructure in the United States.Texas, expected to account for 41 per cent of new US data centre capacity in 2028, according to research firm SemiAnalysis cited by Axios, could face particular challenges.Democrat Gina Hinojosa's victory over Republican Governor Greg Abbott has also raised questions about the future of data centre development in the state. Hinojosa campaigned on maintaining a moratorium on new data centres until lawmakers address concerns involving electricity, water supplies, air quality and property rights.Democrats also won gubernatorial contests in Ohio, Georgia and Arizona, three other states expected to play significant roles in the country's AI infrastructure expansion.Trump wants data centres to address local concernsTrump has previously sought to address concerns over the impact of large data centres while continuing to encourage investment in the sector.In an October 20 Truth Social post, he said major data centres should generate their own electricity, sell excess power to local utilities and provide financial benefits to nearby residents."MAKE DEALS, and get them built!!! Now that even Republican stalwarts like Ted Cruz have acknowledged the party received an “ass-kicking” in the mid-term election, Trump admirers are hearing about the downside to being attached to the Presidential rump.Even before the votes have been fully counted, Democrat lawmakers are announcing a slew of Congressional investigations into Trump era shenanigans, amid cautionary warnings from some quarters that witchhunts should not derail legislative agenda they are now empowered to lay out. Wasting no time, California Congressman Robert Garcia, who is expected to chair the House oversight and government reform committee, has identified four principal areas for investigation: Trump's family business dealings, including cryptocurrency ventures (which has ties to Pakistan), corporate corruption and political kickbacks, alleged abuses by the Department of Homeland Security and ICE, and the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. “Lawyer up!” Garcia warned what he described as the "Trump crime family," announcing it would be held accountable for the "largest presidential grift in history." He also said he wants to examine the Trump family's real estate and overseas business interests, including Jared Kushner's investments, adding that family members and senior administration officials, including Stephen Miller, former Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem and Corey Lewandowski, should expect questions.For Trump's corporate courtiers, the next two years could involve plenty of trips to Congressional hearings, none more than for Elon Musk, the Tesla/SpaceX honcho, The world’s richest man spent at least $445 million supporting Republican candidates and political committees during the midterms -- making him the biggest individual donor ever in US election – for paltry returns. Of 43 Republican House candidates he was reported to have backed, just three won. Six of the seven Republican Senate candidates he supported also lost, none worse than Ken Paxton in Texas, where Musk has enormous business interests, and where he spent $230 million only to see Democrat James Talarico romp home.On Tuesday, Musk had urged his more than 240 million X followers to "Vote red today!" but by Wednesday, that post had disappeared, along with an earlier pinned appeal supporting Republican Senate candidates. Often taunted by Trump as Pocohontas because he felt she falsely claimed Native American heritage, her likely targets are expected to be Trump family’s cryptocurrency interests, particularly World Liberty Financial; the administration's efforts to weaken the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau which she helped establish; financial regulators and their treatment of politically connected businesses; and the relationship between major banks and the White House.Other incoming Democratic committee leaders, including Ron Wyden on Senate Finance and Richard Blumenthal on the Senate investigations subcommittee, are reported to be preparing their own inquiries. Blumenthal has already sought records from technology companies and federal regulators concerning corporate contributions to Trump's proposed White House ballroom and possible connections with favourable government treatment.Companies whose contributions or dealings likely to invite attention include Apple, Meta, Google, Nvidia, Amazon, Microsoft, BlackRock, Lockheed Martin, Palantir and Cisco. Nvidia and Apple reportedly committed $25 million apiece to the project, while Google/Alphabet, helmed by Sundar Pichai, is said to have ponied up $ 22 million and Microsoft, led by Satya Nadella, coughed up $ 10 million.There is very little the lame-duck President –-- who has often espoused the philosophy of “to the victor goes the spoils” -- can do to escape the scrutiny and investigations.
