Narendraswamy on Friday said that krishi mela at the Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra (GKVK) in Bengaluru will be held for three days this year as well. “Given the drought conditions prevailing in the State, there had been discussions about limiting the Mela to a single day. However, the event will continue for three days, just as in previous years,” he said. The three days event will proceed to introduce farmers to agricultural innovations and drought-management strategies, despite the current drought situation. He further noted that a three-day krishi mela will be also held in Mandya. “Three-day krishi mela have already been organised at the Universities of Agriculture Sciences in Shivamogga and Dharwad. These events have provided thousands of farmers with information on new crop varieties and technologies, as well as methods for managing drought,” he said. Updated - November 07, 2026 12:01 am IST - Belagavi Sugarcane farmers in Belagavi claimed to have only suspended their agitation and not withdrawn it completely. “Our protest will continue till the farmers take home a total of ₹5,500 per tonne,’’ Chunappa Pujeri, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene president, told reporters in Gurlapur on Friday. “We have accepted the price of ₹3,600 per tonne offered by factories as a temporary solution to our problems. This is conditional to the fact that the factories have agreed to share their profits with us. This is the first time in the country that the factories have agreed to a profit-sharing formula,” Mr. Pujeri said. “However, our demand for ₹5,500 per tonne remains unchanged. We also expect Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to release an incentive of ₹1,000 per tonne as State Advised Price. The State government in neighbouring Maharashtra has promised to release ₹3,900 in the first instalment, ₹100 later and ₹200 if the Union government revises the Minimum Selling Price (MSP) of sugar. The Tamil Nadu government is releasing an SAP of ₹700 per tonne, in addition to the centrally mandated Fair and Remunerative Price. The governments in UP and Haryana are also offering incentives. Karnataka should do so to,” he said. Meanwhile, farmers in Vijayapura demanded that the profit-sharing formula agreed upon in Belagavi be implemented across the State. KRRS leaders submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner K. Anand. He responded by saying that he would convene a meeting of all factories and farmers’ leaders in Vijayapura on Saturday. “There are 10 sugar factories in the district, but all of them are not paying the same price. Last year, while the factories in the Krishna river belt paid around ₹3,300 per tonne, those in the Bhima river belt paid only around ₹3,000. This year, we want all the factories to pay ₹3,600 per tonne,” said Shantagouda Patil, KRRS leader. Sangamesh Sagar, Ramanagouda Patil, Dayananda Koli, Mahadeva Banasode, Sangappa Takke, Abhishekha Hoogar, Mudakanna and other leaders were present. In Bagalkot, however, farmers leaders refused to accept the price of ₹3,600 offered by factories. “We have seen before our own eyes that a politician who was a director in one cooperative factory has now set up 20 private factories. It shows that they are regularly making profits. If they want to make unlimited money, why should the farmers suffer? We want ₹5,500 per tonne for sugarcane,” they alleged. Meanwhile, Raju Shetti, former MP and founder of the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatan (SSS), ended his national highway rasta roko protest on Friday. He announced that the State government had announced that the farmers were likely to get ₹4,200 in three installments. The factories will first pay ₹3,900 per tonne before crushing, ₹100 after the end of crushing and ₹200 per tonne if the Union government revises MSP for sugar. This was announced after a meeting of factories and farmers convened by Minister Hassan Mushrif, Mr. Shetti said. He gave the credit to the united struggle of Karnataka and Maharashtra for what he called was an interim success of the agitation. The SSS members had blocked the Pune-Bangalore highway at Kini zakat naka for two days. It was opened by Friday evening. Updated - November 06, 2026 11:56 pm IST - HYDERABAD Telangana High Court on Friday issued Form-I notices to six officials including the Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration T.K. Sreedevi and HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath in a contempt-of-court case. Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy directed the two top officials, along with four others, to appear before the bench personally on December 4. The other officers, who got the Form-I notices, were Sangareddy joint collector, Ameenpur municipal commissioner, Sangareddy District Panchayat Officer and Sangareddy tahsildar. The petitioner, M.A. Shareef, contended that the said officials intentionally interfered with the possession of his property in Ailapur village of Ameenpur municipality despite a specific order from the HC. Shareef (98) said that he constructed a farmhouse on his land admeasuring nearly 36 acres by securing permissions from the government departments concerned. He furnished registered sale deeds dating back to 1959 and pattadar passbooks of the land before the court. The petitioner told the bench that the officials, supported by some personnel numbering a few hundred, entered his land in the early hours of this April 11. It was a public holiday and no prior notice was issued, the petitioner said. The senior citizen contended that though the HC issued an interim order on September 25 of 2025 in the matter, the authorities got the farmhouse demolished. The judge issued Form-I notice observing that the records presented showed there was wilful disobedience of the bench orders. Updated - November 06, 2026 11:37 pm IST - KANNUR Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national executive committee member Kummanam Rajasekharan on Thursday (November 5) accused the INDIA bloc of trying to create political instability and said the Opposition’s protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls were aimed at disrupting constitutional institutions. Addressing a BJP Kannur district committee march titled ‘Save Democracy against Anarchy’, he alleged that the 22-party Opposition alliance had exhausted its options for protest and was now targeting the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the judiciary. The march was part of demonstrations organised by the BJP across the country. Mr. Rajasekharan defended the SIR exercise, arguing that electoral rolls needed revisions to remove the names of deceased voters, people who had shifted residence, and duplicate entries. He said voters had time to raise objections and submit documents to establish their eligibility. The ECI was carrying out the exercise transparently, he added. He accused the Congress of blaming electoral roll revision for its repeated defeats. Mr. Rajasekharan said the BJP stood for principle-based politics while accusing Rahul Gandhi of promoting violence and anarchy. He claimed the BJP continued to enjoy public support, citing local body victories in Andhra Pradesh. BJP State general secretary Shobha Surendran addressed the gathering. The agitation was staged to demand the uninterrupted release of water from the Basavasagar reservoir through the Narayanpur Left and Right Bank Canals until the end of November to protect standing crops, including paddy, green chili, and cotton. Commercial establishments, markets, and shops voluntarily shut down operations until 3 p.m. in solidarity with the farmers. However, public transport remained largely unaffected. Hundreds of farmers gathered near the Tahsildar’s office in Yadgir before marching to the Subhash Chandra Bose Circle, where they staged a demonstration for several hours. Addressing the rally, Mr. Naik alleged that despite sufficient water storage in the reservoir, discharges were being routed overnight to neighboring Telangana while local agricultural requirements were overlooked. Rebutting district in-charge Minister Sharan Prakash Patil’s denial of the allegations, Mr. Naik claimed that local farmers possessed video evidence documenting the inter-State water transfer. He appealed to Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil to allocate at least 14 tmcft of water to Yadgir district to save standing crops, highlighting that 28 tmcft of water had already been reserved for drinking purposes in Vijayapura and Bagalkot districts. Mr. Naik also urged Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar to withdraw cases registered against farmers during previous agitations, offering to have himself booked first instead. He warned that the agitation would be intensified if Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigama Limited enforces its proposed Warabandhi shutdown starting November 12. The protest garnered support from multiple farmer associations, pro-Kannada outfits, Dalit organisations, and the local Advocates’ Association. A formal memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister was submitted through Deputy Commissioner Rahul Pandve, who assured the protesters that their demands and grievances would be forwarded to higher authorities promptly. Basavaraj Veebhutihalli, Rachanagouda Mudnal, Mahesh Reddy Mudnal, Devendra Nath Nad, Lalita Anapur, Mareppa Chattarkar, Mareppa Naik, Bheemu Naik and others were present at the demonstration.
