The Gauhati High Court on Friday (October 9, 2026) granted conditional bail to Amritprabha Mahanta, one of the seven accused in the death of Assamese cultural icon Zubeen Garg in Singapore.

The court directed Ms Mahanta to furnish a bail bond of ₹50,000 and barred her from leaving her hometown. The restrictions were imposed due to the ongoing investigation and trial.

However, she has to complete certain formalities before a Fast Track Court (hearing the case) before she can be released from prison.

The Assam police’s Special Task Force arrested Ms Mahanta, Garg’s co-singer, along with Garg’s drummer Shekharjyoti Goswami on October 2, 2025. She has been in Haflong Jail since October 15, 2025.

Ms Mahanta accompanied Garg on his trip to Singapore and was reportedly present during a yacht outing to an island near the Singapore Strait on September 19, 2025. Garg died after swimming in the sea off the island.

The other accused in the case are Shyamkanu Mahanta, the Singapore event organiser, Siddhartha Sharma, Garg’s manager, Sandipan Garg, the deceased singer’s cousin, and Nandeswar Borah and Paresh Baishya, Garg’s personal security officers.
