The historic 416th Srirangapatna Dasara will be inaugurated by actor V. Ravichandran on October 15, while Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will inaugurate the six-day Cauvery Aarati programme at the KRS reservoir on October 11.
Disclosing this in Mandya on Saturday, district In-charge Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy told reporters that Srirangapatna Dasara would be held in accordance with tradition despite the prevailing drought situation in the State.
He said there would be no curtailment of the Dasara celebrations, which represent the region’s cultural heritage. To provide a platform for local talent, a two-day Yuva Sambhrama programme would be held on October 12 and 13, ahead of the main festivities from October 15 to 18, on the lines of Mysuru Dasara.
The Cauvery Aarati at the KRS reservoir near Srirangapatna will begin on October 11 and continue for six days. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the programme.
The Minister said the Cauvery Aarati was introduced at KRS for the first time last year and emphasised the need to continue such traditional programmes to uphold the cultural heritage of the State.
Before the press conference, the Minister and other dignitaries released the logo of the Srirangapatna Dasara.
Mandya MLA Ravi Ganiga, Srirangapatna MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda, MLC Dinesh Gooligowda, Cauvery Neeravari Nigam managing director Mahesh, Mandya Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kumar and ZP CEO Nandini were present.
The logo features an ornate golden gopuram at the top, representing the historic Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple of Srirangapatna. The number “416th” is prominently displayed below the gopuram, highlighting the historic legacy of the festival.
At the centre is a dark-green circular design featuring a richly decorated elephant carrying the Jamboo Savari ambari, with a mahout leading the elephant. The central motif is surrounded by a traditional red-and-gold border, with royal-style golden pillars and floral motifs on either side.
The lower portion carries a maroon nameplate with “Srirangapatna” in white and “Dasara” prominently displayed in large, three-dimensional golden lettering.
The logo combines shades of gold, dark green and red to symbolise Srirangapatna’s cultural heritage, royal legacy and the grandeur of the Dasara festival, the authorities said in a press release.
