The growing role of radiology and advanced imaging technologies in accurate and timely diagnosis was highlighted at a special academic programme, ‘From Probe to Practice – Radiology Live’, organised at the Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital in Kalaburagi on Sunday (September 27).
The programme was organised jointly by the Karnataka State Chapter of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) and the Department of Radiology, Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College, managed by the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society.
Sudhir Kale, president of the Karnataka State IRIA, who was the chief speaker, explained the latest technologies being used in radiology, including advanced ultrasound, sonography, Doppler and imaging techniques.
He said modern radiology technologies play an important role at every stage of diagnosis, beginning with examination of the patient and acquisition of accurate images, followed by scientific analysis and interpretation to assist in arriving at a diagnosis.
Dr. Kale said modern radiology technologies have helped improve the accuracy and speed of diagnosis. He stressed the need for doctors to continuously update their knowledge of emerging technologies and said practical and academic programmes of this nature would benefit both doctors and medical students.
He said the Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital has several modern facilities required for radiology and diagnosis and was progressing towards being recognised among the advanced hospitals in the region.
Dr. Kale also outlined the activities of the Karnataka State Chapter of IRIA and said it regularly organises academic programmes, medical conferences and other activities for radiologists. He said the Karnataka Radiologists Premier League (KRPL) was also being organised to promote sports and recreation among radiologists along with their professional development.
Sharanabasappa Harawal, convener of the medical college and member of its governing body, spoke at the programme. Sharanagouda Patil, dean of the medical college, presided.
IRIA Karnataka State Chapter secretary Vijay Sarathi, head of the Department of Radiology Shivanand Melakundi and KMC observer Dr Rayakod Patil were present.
Shruthi Patil and Sanjana Devaramani were present.
