Three persons, including an American tourist, were injured after a car they were travelling in hit an autorickshaw on the Tiruvannamalai–Bengaluru High Road at Manmalai village near Chengam town in Tiruvannamalai on Saturday.
Police identified injured persons as Glendy, 51, the American tourist, V. Bila, 29, a cab driver and resident of Kalasapakkam town near Arani, and G. Elumalai, 38, an autorickshaw driver from Nachipattu village near Chengam town.
An initial inquiry revealed that Bargavin, 58, and his wife, Glendy, an American couple from California, visited tourist spots such as Yelagiri Hills and Gingee Fort by cab. While they were returning to Chennai, an autorickshaw suddenly entered the stretch from a village road, causing the cab driver, Bila, to lose control of the car and hit the three-wheeler.
Three persons were injured in the accident that occurred around 8 a.m. Passersby and other motorists rescued the injured persons and admitted them to Government Taluk Hospital in Chengam before they were referred to Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai.
Police said that low visibility on the stretch, due to thick mist in the morning hours, could have been the reason for the accident. Further probe is under way.
