Union Home Minister Amit Shah will participate in the groundbreaking ceremony of the Sabar Dairy Project and inaugurate Amul’s first modern dairy processing plant in Telangana at the Urja Industrial Park in Toopran, Medak district, on Sunday.
The newly-established Amul unit has an initial milk processing capacity of five lakh litres per day (LLPD). It will also produce 200 metric tonnes of curd per day, along with 30 kilolitres per day (KLPD) of buttermilk, including plain, masala and bottled probiotic variants. The facility is designed to manufacture 30 KLPD of lassi in cups and pouches and 10 metric tonnes of paneer per day.
In addition, the plant will produce 50 KLPD of ice cream, with scope to expand capacity to one lakh litres per day in the future. Other products include three metric tonnes of fresh sweets per day, scalable to five metric tonnes, besides five metric tonnes each of bakery products such as bread, cookies and rusks, and ghee, said an official release on Friday.
Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy said the Centre’s White Revolution 2.0 initiative aims to establish 75,000 new dairy cooperative societies across the country by 2029, including 1,525 societies in Telangana.
He said that over the past 12 years, the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) had sanctioned about ₹1.16 lakh crore to Telangana. The assistance includes ₹37,000 crore for paddy procurement covering Kharif and Rabi marketing seasons up to 2025-26, besides a ₹22,700-crore loan for the 2026-27 Rabi season, of which ₹1,825 crore has already been released.
Telangana has more than 60,000 cooperative societies, with over 50,000 actively functioning and a combined membership exceeding one crore people. Nearly 70% of these societies are located in rural areas, highlighting the importance of the cooperative sector in supporting farmers and rural livelihoods. A stronger and efficient cooperative network can significantly improve farmers’ incomes, enhance returns on agricultural produce and strengthen rural economic development across the State, he added.
