After a brief hiatus, the rainfall activity is set to resume in Keralam for a few days from Sunday (November 1, 2026) under the influence of a weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area formed over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is likely to intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman Sea and Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Saturday (October 31).

Various weather models indicate the possibility of further intensification into a cyclonic storm by Sunday or Monday, with the system moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and parts of Southern Peninsula is likely to receive heavy rainfall under its influence. If the system develops into a cyclone, it will be named Murasu, a name proposed by India that means ‘drum’ in Tamil.

Under the influence of the system, the Ghat regions and isolated parts of Keralam are likely to receive heavy rainfall over the next few days. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki on Sunday, warning of isolated heavy showers. On Monday, the yellow alert has been issued for four districts: Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad.
