The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has called for tenders to establish a decentralised 1 million litres per day (MLD) capacity sewage treatment plant (STP) near Tavarekere Park, following local demand.
“A significant quantity of sewage currently flows through the stormwater drain near the park. Local residents and park users have raised concerns over the resulting foul odour, fly nuisance and unhygienic conditions. The proposed project is intended to provide a long-term solution to these issues,” BWSSB said in a statement.
The STP will intercept sewage flow into the drain and treat it. While potable water is currently being used to maintain the park, the STP will ensure treated water will be used for gardening and landscaping. Excess treated water will be used for construction activities, landscaping, road, and premises washing, and other suitable non-potable requirements in surrounding areas, BWSSB said.
