CESC Chairman and MLA Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda has directed agencies executing underground (UG) power cable works in Mysuru to complete the ongoing works and restore affected roads and footpaths by October 5, ahead of the Dasara festivities.
Presiding over a meeting with officials and representatives of the agencies concerned at the CESC office here on Tuesday to review the progress of UG cable works, Mr. Gowda said there would be no compromise on completing the works within the stipulated deadline.
He directed the agencies to ensure 100% restoration of all locations where UG cable works had been taken up. He also instructed officials to temporarily stop taking up new works in view of Dasara.
Expressing displeasure over trenches dug on roads and footpaths being left unattended, he directed officials to identify all such locations and ensure that they were properly closed immediately. Debris generated during the works should also be completely removed and disposed of properly, he said.
Barricades and warning boards should be installed at all locations where works were in progress to ensure public safety, he added.
Mr. Gowda said white-topping, underground drainage (UGD) and UG cable works were being carried out at several locations in the city. Lack of coordination among the agencies could cause inconvenience to the public, he said, directing officials and contractors to coordinate their activities.
He also directed officials to remove all UG cable materials and other CESC-related materials lying on footpaths and other public places before Dasara to ensure smooth movement of pedestrians and vehicles and maintain the city’s appearance.
Another review meeting would be held on October 6 to assess the progress of the UG cable works. Heads of all agencies concerned should attend the meeting, he said, warning that action would be taken if the works were not completed by then.
CESC Technical Director L. Lokesh, Mysuru Circle Superintending Engineer Sunil Kumar and officials of CESC and various agencies were present.
