Andhra Pradesh continues to be on alert, with the India Meteorological Department issuing flash flood warnings for the coastal belt on Tuesday (November 3, 2026), even as the Severe Cyclonic Murasu Storm continues to remain active.
While the IMD said the storm would gradually weaken into a cyclonic storm by noon, the same has not happened as of 3 p.m. Gales with wind speeds reaching 95-105 kmph are still prevailing along the A.P. coast, and it would decrease gradually becoming 85-95 kmph once the system weakens into a cyclonic storm.
Due to this, the IMD has given a flash flood alert for the districts of Bapatla, Guntur, Krishna, Eluru, Palnadu and Prakasam, since these face a ‘moderate’ flash flood threat, due to the storm surge.
Meanwhile, Bapatla, a coastal district of Andhra Pradesh, continued to receive very heavy rainfall on Tuesday (November 3, 2026). While the storm brought extremely heavy rain to both Prakasam and Bapatla districts on the intervening night of November 2 and 3, the rainfall activity slowed down in Prakasam district on Tuesday morning (November 3, 2026). But, Bapatla continued to receive very heavy rainfall of above 150 mm.
Between 8.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday (November 3, 2026), Konanki of Bapatla district received 182.25 mm, Martur in the same district recorded 174.75 mm, Edlapadu of Palnadu district recorded 147.45 mm, and Chilakaluripeta of Palnadu district recorded 147.13 mm.
The A.P. State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has warned that very heavy rainfall is likely in the districts of Polavaram, Kakinada, NTR, Krishna, Bapatla, and Palnadu as the Severe Cyclonic Storm is yet to weaken.
After crossing the A.P. coast close to Ongole, near the locations of Kothapatnam in Prakasam district and Chinnaganjam in Bapatla district, between 3.30 a.m. and 8.30 a.m., the storm over south coastal A.P. moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 8 kmph until 1 p.m. As per observations made by the weather experts at 1 p.m., the storm was located about 30 km north-northeast of Ongole, 40 km southwest of Bapatla, 90 km north-northeast of Kavali, 100 km southsouthwest of Vijayawada and 120 km west-southwest of Machilipatnam.
