The NTR district administration has been put on full alert in view of the possibility of widespread heavy rainfall in Budameru catchment areas due to the Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu.
The NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha on Monday conducted an extensive field inspection of Gudavalli and Enikepadu areas along the Budameru river and inspected the flow and the prevailing ground-level conditions. Later, he held a review meeting with officials of the departments concerned and issued key instructions.
He directed officials to ensure that there were no obstructions to the flow of floodwater, even if heavy inflows entered the catchment areas. Water hyacinth and other waste materials near culverts and bridges should be removed regularly to facilitate the smooth flow of water, he said.
The Collector emphasised that irrigation, revenue and municipal officials must remain constantly alert at the field level. He also instructed officials to keep sandbags ready near vulnerable and weakened embankments as a precautionary measure.
He appealed to the people living in low-lying areas and along Budameru catchment to remain vigilant until the impact of the cyclone subsides. Assuring residents that there was no need to panic, he said the district administration would remain available round-the-clock to respond to any emergency.
The Collector urged the public to follow only official government updates and cautioned them against believing rumours and misinformation circulating on social media under any circumstances.
Public can contact the control room set up at the Collectorate at 9154970454 for any assistance.
