Under fire from the Dravidar Kazhagam and its affiliates for conducting his granddaughter’s wedding with traditional Hindi rituals recently, DMK general secretary Duraimurugan on Friday said it was done as per her wishes.

Clarifying his stance amid the backlash, Mr Duraimurugan in a statement said: “My granddaughter, educated overseas, shared with me that she was in love with an individual outside our caste and wished to marry him with traditional Hindu rituals. The ceremony was held entirely at her request. I conceded to the arrangement only due to her strong persistence. I express my regret over this development and request everyone not to make it a political issue or a subject of debate”.
