Food safety officials conducted inspections at several hotels and restaurants in Visakhapatnam on Thursday night, checking the quality and storage of food items and hygiene conditions in kitchens.
Director of Drugs and Food Safety P. Arun Babu led the inspection team and personally inspected several establishments. The inspections continued until late on Thursday night.
At Kamath Hotel on Beach Road, around 60 kg of chicken stored in violation of the rules was destroyed. A notice for improvement was issued over unhygienic conditions in the kitchen, which was also sealed, and a case was registered.
At Pista House on Beach Road, officials destroyed around 30 kg of chicken. An improvement notice was issued, and a case was registered for non-compliance with the rules, officials said in a statement.
At Alpha Hotel, Jagadamba Centre, the kitchen was found to be unhygienic and was sealed after a notice was issued.
At Fusion Foods, Siripuram, officials found unhygienic conditions in the kitchen and issued a notice before sealing it.
At Eastern Spice Restaurant, Akkayyapalem, an improvement notice was issued, and a case was registered for failure to maintain hygiene standards in the kitchen.
The inspection team included B. Srinivas, Joint Food Controller; Kalyan Chakravarthi and Venugopal Rao, Assistant Food Controllers; and Food Safety Officers Ravikumar, Apparao, Ravindra Reddy, Srinu and Ananda Rao.
