Unhygienic food preparation and storage, a lack of medical fitness certificates for food handlers, and deficiencies in registration and labelling were among the violations found during inspections of sweet manufacturing units and sales outlets across Karnataka on October 15 and 16.
The Food Safety Wing of the Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration issued notices to 25 sweet units and sales outlets during the two-day special inspection drive. Two operators in Kolar district were fined ₹2,000 and ₹5,000.
Among the establishments, the notices were issued to Agarwal Sweets in Kalaburagi, Kanti Sweets in Madikeri, Asha Sweets in J.P. Nagar, Bengaluru, and Sri Durga Sweets in Gangavathi, on various grounds. Other establishments facing notices included Sangam Sweets in Bengaluru’s HBR Layout, Bansuri Sweets in Vijayanagar, Bengaluru, and several units in Raichur, Kolar, Koppal, Mysuru Rural and other districts.
On Friday, the second day of the drive, the officials inspected 90 sweet manufacturing units and sales outlets and collected 145 food samples for analysis.
