Madanayakanahalli police have arrested a foreign national for allegedly assaulting staff members at a Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) holding facility in Sondekoppa village on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

The accused has been identified as Kelvin James, who is lodged at the Foreigners Detention/Restriction Centre (FRC) and faces several cases pertaining to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and assault.

Earlier this week, Kelvin allegedly entered the staff office and assaulted a staff member who was sleeping. The following day, he allegedly assaulted another staff member, prompting the facility in-charge to file a complaint.

An investigator in the case told The Hindu that Kelvin’s wife and daughter are also lodged at a restriction centre elsewhere. He was reportedly upset over his prolonged detention at the centre.

However, this is not the first time Kelvin has allegedly assaulted staff members. On April 29, he allegedly brandished a knife and threatened on-duty personnel using abusive language. He reportedly attempted to attack the staff. Additional personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector and other staff members, rushed to the spot and managed to disarm him after a struggle.

According to the police, the accused has a history of such behaviour. In January this year, he allegedly attacked personnel with stones and the lid of a water sump.
