Damage due to rainfall to be assessed; assistance to affected families within 24 hours: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday (September 26, 2026) directed officials to assess damage owing to rainfall within 24 hours and provide all possible assistance to affected families.
“In view of changing weather conditions, heavy rainfall and warnings of thunderstorms and lightning in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the District Magistrates of all concerned districts to maintain special vigilance and visit the field. The Chief Minister has directed that schools be kept closed in districts under red alert and facing the possibility of flash floods.
Senior officials have also been directed to maintain complete vigilance and immediately assess the damage caused by lightning and excessive rainfall and provide all possible assistance to affected families within 24 hours,” reads an official statement from the State government.
Mr. Adityanath added that State government stands with the people of the State with full commitment in every situation. “In addition, officials have been directed to take effective measures according to local conditions for the safety of the public and to maintain special monitoring in sensitive areas,” added the Uttar Pradesh CM.
The Chief Minister has directed officials to ensure the safety of people living in dilapidated houses and huts. He has said that such people should be shifted to the nearest relief shelter as required, so that their lives are not endangered in the event of heavy rainfall or flash floods.
Earlier, Relief Commissioner Dr. Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod held a video conference with the District Magistrates of districts under red and orange alerts and reviewed the weather situation and preparations. He directed officials to remain active in the field, continuously monitor local conditions and ensure immediate action in the event of any emergency.
In eastern Uttar Pradesh, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning and strong winds is forecast for September 27. In western Uttar Pradesh also, heavy rainfall and thunder and lightning are likely on September 27.
The Relief Commissioner added, “Ensuring the safety of the life and property of every person is the responsibility of the administration. District Magistrates should themselves remain in the field, inspect the situation and maintain continuous communication with the public. Instructions have been issued to disseminate information regarding weather warnings and necessary precautions widely among the people through public address systems, local communication channels and other available resources.”
In view of the red alert in Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit and Shahjahanpur, instructions have been issued to maintain special vigilance.
Meanwhile, in Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Raebareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, Basti, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Hardoi, Lucknow, Barabanki, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Sambhal and Badaun, among other areas, officials will remain active in view of the orange alert.
In view of the possibility of flash floods in some watershed areas of Azamgarh, Ballia, Ghazipur, Mau, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Balrampur, Ambedkar Nagar, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Gonda, Shravasti, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Hardoi, Lucknow, Unnao, Raebareli, Barabanki, Amethi, Fatehpur, Kanpur Nagar, Banda, Kaushambi and Chitrakoot, instructions have been issued to keep security and relief agencies ready as required.
The Relief Commissioner directed that during strong winds and lightning, people should be prevented from going to open spaces, near trees, orchards and parks. It should also be ensured that no person is forced to stay under the open sky. All arrangements related to relief and rescue should be kept active and immediate action should be taken whenever required.
