Industry-oriented training in advanced technologies is beginning to translate into jobs for students of Telangana’s Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs), with 117 students from the centre at Utnoor in Adilabad district securing placements in leading multinational companies.
The achievement is particularly significant for students from remote areas, where access to industry-oriented technical education and employment opportunities has traditionally been limited. Officials said the placements demonstrated the potential of equipping youth with skills relevant to Industry 4.0 and the emerging AI-driven job market.
The State government has established 65 ATCs in collaboration with Tata Technologies, upgrading existing Industrial Training Institutes with modern equipment and courses in areas such as CNC machining, robotics, automation and electric vehicle technology. More than 11,000 students have so far undergone training at the centres, while over 4,000 have secured employment.
Nearly 4,000 ATC students have participated in campus placement drives conducted so far, with about 61% of those taking part securing jobs.
The biggest single placement drive so far was the job mela held at Kodad on September 19, where 725 ATC students secured jobs. In the same week, nearly 700 students were placed through campus drives conducted by Tata Technologies in Warangal and Hyderabad. Another 350 students secured employment at a job mela organised at the Shantinagar ATC in Hyderabad, while 80 students were placed at a job mela in Kodangal on September 22.
Companies such as Apple, ITC, Larsen & Toubro, Bharat Dynamics, Eicher, Apollo, Tata Motors and Schneider Electric have recruited ATC students, offering employment packages considered attractive by officials.
Two batches that completed the one-year programme have already passed out, while another batch has completed the two-year programme. The new batches admitted this year have recorded close to 100% occupancy in almost all the ATCs.
The government has planned another 54 ATCs, which are currently under construction. Once completed, Telangana will have nearly 119 ATCs, covering all Assembly constituencies, with the overall investment estimated at about ₹4,000 crore.
The ATC initiative was conceived against the backdrop of a growing mismatch between formal educational qualifications and industry requirements. With the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and automation changing the nature of conventional jobs, officials and industry experts have stressed the need to give greater emphasis to practical, employment-oriented skills.
The foundation stone for the ATC project was laid in June 2024 and all 65 centres were made operational within 15 months. The centres were inaugurated in September 2025.
The government is also looking at overseas employment opportunities for youth trained in Industry 4.0 technologies. Countries such as Japan, South Korea and Germany are expected to have growing demand for technically skilled workers.
