Instead of merely remaining a language spoken at home, Kannada should become a language of technology and knowledge in today’s modern era of technology and artificial intelligence, said Minister in charge of Mandya district N. Cheluvarayaswamy on Sunday (November 1, 2026).

Delivering an address after hoisting the flag at the 71st Kannada Rajyothsava Day celebrations at Sir M Visvesvaraya Stadium in Mandya, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy emphasised the need for Kannada to grow into a language of knowledge, science and employment.

Pointing out that Mandya district had the highest proportion of Kannada-speaking people in the State, the Minister said the district had made a huge contribution to the literary and culture spheres.

On the occasion, 30 achievers, who had rendered significant contributions across various fields, were honoured with the district level Kannada Rajyothsava award.

Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said about 450 acres of land has been identified in the district for distribution of sites to about 15,000 houseless families.

He said the Mandya Zilla Panchayat’s tableau — Stree Shakti Anavarana (Unveiling of Women Power) — that participated in the Vijayadashami procession of the recently held Mysuru Dasara had secured the first prize.

He said the ‘Akka Cafe’ — cafes run by women’s self help groups — set up in Pandavapura and Srirangapatna were running successfully and the government proposes to expand the initiative to other taluks in Mandya district.

Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy also revealed that for the first time in the State, the Mugulnage Sinchana programme to provide free dental treatment to rural people at Primary Health Centres has been implemented in Mandya district.

Speaking about reforms in the revenue department, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamyh said over the past three-and-a-half years, Mandya district has secured the first place in the entire State by resolving 27,000 revenue disputes and issuing 1.72 lakh Pouthi (inheritance) Khatas. Additionally, Aadhaar linking for 18 lakh RTCs (Pahanis) and the digitization of 3.8 crore pages of records have been completed, he said.

Mandya Assembly Constituency MLA P. Ravikumar, Deputy Commissioner Kumar, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K.R. Nandini, Superintendent of Police Shobharani and other officials were also present on the occasion.
