The Kerala Postal Circle has launched an ‘Assured Next Day Delivery’ service, connecting the six Municipal Corporations in the State.

The service was launched here as part of the World Post Day and National Postal Week celebrations. Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General (CPMG), Kerala circle, inaugurated the service by posting letters addressed to the Mayors of the six Municipal Corporations.

Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Singh said that India Post had evolved beyond merely delivering letters to become a major financial and banking institution and an e-commerce logistics network. Keralam was the State handling the highest volume of parcels through India Post, he said.

Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.V. Rajesh, who presided over the function, said India Post was the only network with a reach extending from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. He also stressed the need for technology-driven modernisation in the Department of Posts.

Under the scheme, ‘Speed Post’ parcels and documents booked at post offices in the six Municipal Corporations of Keralam - Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Kannur - will be delivered the next working day. The service will be provided at no additional charge. It has been made possible through an extensive road transportation network established by the department on the Thiruvananthapuram-Kannur route. This will help reduce transit delays while ensuring onward delivery through integrated delivery centres and post offices along the route.

Baijukumar B.L., AD Mails CO, explained the details of the scheme.

A special postal cover themed ‘Safai Mitras – Guardians of Cleanliness’ was released by Mr. Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Kerala Circle, by handing it over to Mr. Rajesh. Sanitation workers of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation were felicitated at the function.

Kumari Shikha, winner of an international letter-writing competition, was honoured with a cash award of ₹10,000. Passbooks under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana were also distributed at the function. N.R. Giri, Director of Postal Services (HQ), Kerala Circle, delivered the welcome address.

Govada Navya Sri, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Thiruvananthapuram North Division, proposed the vote of thanks. Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Deputy Mayor Asha Nath G.S., Health Standing Committee chairperson M.R. Gopan, and Director of Postal Accounts Vaishnavi D. were present.

The postal circle released a special postal cover in honour of captain Smit Machchhar who fought off an attack from his co-pilot inside the cockpit of a flydubai plane. His father participated in the function online.

The special cover themed ‘Honouring Captain Smit Machchhar – A Salute to Unparalleled Courage and Selfless Service’ was released by Mr. Singh by handing it over to Mr. Rajesh.
