The Kerala PSC headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram.
Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) secretary Saju George appeared at the Crime Branch headquarters for a second round of questioning in connection with alleged irregularities in PSC examinations on Monday.
The official, who told mediapersons that he would fully cooperate with the ongoing probe, is learnt to have stuck to his statement made during the previous questioning two days ago.
During the questioning that lasted nearly three hours, he reportedly told investigators that PSC chairperson M.R. Baiju had not consulted him, the other commission members, or other senior officials on important examination-related decisions. He also alleged that the chairperson frequently took unilateral decisions.
Besides, procedural irregularities had purportedly occurred in multiple examinations, with the chairperson accused of independently taking decisions on matters that should have been collectively discussed and approved by the commission.
Yet another allegation concerns the selection of interview board members. The chairperson is suspected to have appointed persons of his choice to interview panels, bypassing the established collective decision-making process, sources said.
Such decisions had reportedly triggered serious disagreements among commission members, resulting in divisions within the organisation. There are also claims that the commission had virtually split into multiple factions that further hindered decision-making in various matters.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) sought additional information regarding the examination procedures, the preparation of question papers, the selection of interview board members and other technical aspects of the recruitment process. The PSC chairperson, who had also been questioned a few days ago, had reportedly denied any wrongdoing and blamed officials for the lapses.
The Crime Branch is also expected to question the PSC Controller of Examinations. Notices have also been issued to 12 PSC members, who are also expected to appear for questioning as part of the investigation in the coming days.
