Amid a decline in the number of Non-Resident Indian (NRI) tourists visiting Karnataka, the State Tourism Department is participating in the World Travel Market (WTM) London 2026 roadshow, scheduled to be held from November 2 to 6.
The WTM London 2026 is a premier global meeting place for travel industry and professionals of hospitality industry, stakeholders and others to exhibit tourist places of their respective countries, States and attend various sessions that reflect on improving tourism.
Around 180 countries participate in the event with more than 4,000 exhibitors and over 40,000 participants.
A senior official from the Tourism Department, said, “For the first time, these road shows and sessions are being held in Manchester and Birmingham. Earlier, a lot of NRI tourists came to Karnataka for tourism. Post the COVID pandemic, the number of tourists visiting places have reduced to more than 50%. We want to revive this footfall through our roadshow. The reason is they are visiting tourist places like Maldives, Bali, Abu Dhabi and other countries in the Middle East.”
The official said, “In order to attract them back to Karnataka and also other foreign tourists especially those from London, Germany, the U.S., Australia, we are holding these road shows to promote the State tourism.”
According to the officials, around nine people are selected to participate in the event to promote the State tourism. “They will put up posters, audio-visual displays of tourist places in Karnataka on an LED screen. They will also explain the importance of these places to the participants, accomodation facilities available, ease of travel and other options,” the official said.
Through this road show, the officials are hoping that by the end of this year or the beginning of next year of tourism season, the department hopes to attract more NRIs to the world famous places in the State.

Mayor R. Priya inaugurated four civic facilities, including a park, a ward office, and health infrastructure, built using Greater Chennai Corporation’s Capital Funds in Valasaravakkam zone at a total cost of ₹5.35 crore on Sunday.
They include a 3,821-sq.m. park with an open-air gym, tennis court, yoga space, and a mini-auditorium on Matha Koil Street in Nerkundram, built at a cost of ₹1.95 crore. An urban wellness centre in the same locality, constructed at ₹25 lakh, was also opened.
The Mayor inaugurated a new ward office, built at a cost of ₹2.05 crore, on Sakthi Nagar Main Road, along with the second floor of a primary health centre, built at a cost of ₹1.10 crore. The 158-sq.m. extension has a lift and other facilities.
The inaugurations come amid continuing differences between the GCC administration and elected representatives over the non-release of ward development funds for 2026-27. Councillors have said the delay has affected the execution of local civic works.
