Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said that L.V. Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in Amaravati would strengthen the capital’s healthcare ecosystem.
“It will be developed as an eye care and research centre,” the Chief Minister said after performing ‘bhumi puja’ for the institute.
Mr. Naidu said the facility was being established on 12 acres with capacity to treat three lakh people annually. “Besides eye care, it will undertake research and training programmes, and will also have an Eye and Brain Centre,” he said.
He said the institute had so far provided three-crore eye treatments and was serving poor patients through 319 centres across four States. Its digital health eye profile initiative would help provide timely treatment.
Mr. Naidu said Amaravati was being developed as a people’s capital. “it will be a no-pollution city, blue and green city, green energy, carbon neutrality and a deep-tech capital,” he said, adding that the city was emerging as a hub for quantum computing, with IBM, TCS and L&T setting up a 133-qubit quantum computer.
The Chief Minister said works worth ₹50,000 crore were underway, including ring roads, other trunk infrastructure. He said a sports city and an international airport would also be established. Mr. Naidu thanked the farmers who had parted with their lands, and said Amaravati would emerge as a centre for knowledge economy, research and healthcare.
