The Mundakkayam police on Monday booked a 27-year-old man for attempted murder after a preliminary investigation revealed that he had deliberately rammed his car into several vehicles at Chotti, near Mundakkayam, on Sunday.

The accused, Sharon Philp, 27, of Thenpuzha, was booked following a preliminary investigation that indicated he had deliberately driven his car at high speed and rammed it into other vehicles in an apparent suicide attempt.

The accident occurred around 8 a.m. on Sunday when the car driven by Sharon rammed into an oncoming car before hitting three other cars, a motorcycle and an autorickshaw. Nine people, including a pedestrian, sustained injuries. The injured were admitted to hospitals, while Sharon, who was also hurt, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kanjirappally.

The incident was initially treated as a routine road accident. However, CCTV footage from the accident spot and nearby areas led investigators to conclude that the collisions were deliberate. A case was registered based on complaints filed by those injured in the accident.
