The traditional Gujarati and Rajasthani folk dance ‘Dandia Raas’ unites people and encourages them to participate in ‘Dasara navaratri’ celebrations with religious fervour, said Marwari women’s wing of Vizianagaram president Jyoti Bachhawat on Sunday.

Along with the association general secretary Reema Kothari and senior leader Chanchal Jain, she participated in ‘Dandia Raas’ celebrations at Thoshniwal buildings in Vizianagaram.

Speaking to media, she said: “The dance performed with wooden sticks, brings joy to participants. It also reminds people Goddess Durga’s nine-day battle with the demon Mahishasura.”

As many as 500 families participated in the event, which is scheduled to continue for the next couple of days.
