MLC Lingaraj Patil took officials to task over the lack of basic civic amenities in the Karnataka Housing Board’s Abhinandan Colony Phase II at Gamanagatti in Hubballi during an inspection on Monday.

Mr. Patil, who visited the locality following complaints from residents, said that apart from providing houses to beneficiaries, ensuring basic amenities such as roads, drainage, drinking water, streetlights and sanitation is equally the responsibility of the authorities concerned.

Expressing displeasure over the deficiencies, he said that residents have invested their lifetime savings in purchasing houses in the colony but are still struggling for essential infrastructure.

The administration, which collects taxes and various charges from the public, should not neglect its responsibility to provide basic services, he said.

He asked the Karnataka Housing Board and local civic authorities to coordinate instead of shifting responsibility between departments.

Officials should identify the infrastructure requirements and take up the necessary works without delay, he said and stressed that they should respond promptly to the problems faced by residents.

He issued a warning to them that negligence in addressing public grievances will not be tolerated.

Karnataka Housing Board Assistant Executive Engineer Ramanna Nandi, engineer Rahul Belavatagi and residents were present.
