MP for Mysuru-Kodagu Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has urged Union Minister for Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to expedite approval for the proposed Science Centre in Mysuru under the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPoCS).
In a letter to the Union Minister, Mr. Yaduveer sought early approval for the proposed Category-II, Model-B Science Centre, stating that Mysuru was an ideal location for the facility, given the presence of premier institutions such as CFTRI, DFRL and the University of Mysore.
The proposal was submitted through the State government’s Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science and Technology following the MP’s initiative.
The University of Mysore has already allotted seven acres of land for the project and entered into an agreement with the Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS). The State government has also committed to providing the necessary infrastructure as per the scheme’s guidelines, according to the MP.
The State government submitted a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) on January 5, 2026, excluding the flight simulator and 3D theatre, as these components were not covered under the existing SPoCS guidelines and involved additional consultancy costs. The revised proposal has been submitted to the Project Appraisal Committee (PAC) for consideration and approval, a press release said.
The MP has urged the Union Minister to intervene and expedite the examination of the revised DPR and grant the necessary clearance.
He said the Science Centre would strengthen science education and provide modern, interactive learning facilities for students in Mysuru and neighbouring districts.
“Its early establishment would further enhance Mysuru’s standing as a centre for education, scientific advancement and innovation,” Mr. Yaduveer said.
