NCST orders report on alleged denial of ST reservation at Fluid Control Research Institute in Keralam

The complaint was filed by Radheesh Gopalan, secretary of Palakkad district committee of Kerala Vanavasi Vikasa Kendram; the commission has directed the Ministry of Heavy Industries to submit a report within 15 days

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has begun an inquiry into a complaint alleging denial of reservation to Scheduled Tribe candidates at Fluid Control Research Institute (FCRI), Kanjikode.

The complaint was filed by Radheesh Gopalan, secretary of Palakkad district committee of Kerala Vanavasi Vikasa Kendram. The NCST said it was taking up the matter using its powers under Article 338A of the Constitution.

The commission has directed the Ministry of Heavy Industries to submit a report within 15 days. Failure to comply with the same could lead to the exercise of its civil court powers under Article 338A(8), including issuing summons for appearance, it added.

VVCE hosts silver jubilee reunion of its first batch graduates in Mysuru

Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE), Mysuru, hosted the Silver Jubilee Reunion of its first batch Graduates (2001 batch) under the theme “Guru Vandana – A Tribute to Beloved Teachers” on the college campus here recently. The occasion brought together nearly 100 alumni and their esteemed teachers to celebrate 25 years of graduation and honour the mentors who shaped their academic and professional journeys. Prof. N. S. Lingegowda, Coordinator, VVCE Alumni Association (VVCEAA) highlighted the emotional significance of the reunion and the enduring bond between teachers and students. Vice-Principal Shobhashankar presented an overview of VVCE’s growth, highlighting its achievements in NBA and NAAC accreditation, modern infrastructure, and student-centric facilities. She also expressed the institution’s aspiration to attain private university status in the coming years. P. Vishwanath, Secretary, Vidyavardhaka Sangha (VVS) appreciated the institution’s achievements in academic results, placements and admissions, and emphasised the infrastructure developed at VVCE. He urged the alumni to support budding engineers through professional referrals and by facilitating recruitment opportunities from reputed companies. Gundappa Gowda, President, VVS encouraged the alumni to extend support to economically disadvantaged students and establish endowment awards to recognise academic rank holders. One of the felicitated teachers described the reunion as a mesmerising and humble journey back to 1997, recalling the first batch as his very first students, classrooms and institution. Distinguished Alumnus Keshav, who travelled from Canada, expressed admiration for VVCE’s transformation and remarked that the batch had left its footprints beneath the institution’s growth. The celebration concluded on a note of gratitude, nostalgia and renewed commitment to strengthening the relationship between VVCE, its teachers and alumni.

Minor earthquake near Vijayapura

A minor earthquake was felt around Bagewadi in Vijayapura district on Tuesday. There were no reports of damage. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) reported that an earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale was recorded early morning within the limits of Dinadavara Gram Panchayat in Basavana Bagevadi Taluk. The earthquake occurred on Tuesday at 12.26 a.m., with its epicenter located 1.1 km southwest of Dinadavara Gram Panchayat. The KSNDMC stated that the tremor originated at a depth of 10 km below the surface. It is situated three km south east of Ingaleshwar Gram Panchayat, 5.3 km south-southwest of Rabinala village and 5.5 km west of Kamanakeri village. The location is 11.5 km northeast of Basavana Bagevadi and 40 km southwest of Vijayapura city, said a release.
