In the view of Dasara-2026, Mysore City Corporation has come up with guidelines to organisers of Dasara programmes, tourists, stall keepers, vendors and public against the usage of banned single-use plastic during the event.
Usage of single-use plastic especially in food mela, flower show, exhibition, cultural extravaganza and sports activities is prohibited. Plastic cup, spoon, thermocol must be replaced with reusable and eco-friendly products like plates made out of arecanut leaves, MCC said in a release.
Organisers must make sure that banned plastic is not used either in food stalls or any other shops. Customers must be encouraged to bring cloth bags. To reduce the burden of plastic waste, public and tourists must use reusable water bottles. “It is mandatory to do the source segregation of dry and wet waste before handing over waste to sanitation staff. Dumping waste to sewage and public places is prohibited”, the MCC warned in a statement.
MCC will carry out a regular inspection across the City and action will be taken against those failed to comply with the guidelines, said in press note.
