Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) has announced that, by the end of the three rounds of counselling for MBBS admissions for the 2026–27 academic year, a total of 3,543 seats, accounting for 77.34 %, of the 4,581 convener quota seats, had been allotted to students belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Backward Classes (BC).
In a press release on Wednesday, Registrar T. Sai Sudheer explained the admission procedures and seat allocation details followed for the MBBS admissions, and condemned the “misinformation” being spread by certain individuals in this regard.
He said there had been a significant increase in the number of open category seats allotted to the meritorious students from the reserved categories in the admissions conducted through the NEET-UG for the 2026–27 academic year.
Following the completion of three rounds of counselling, 1,213 of the total 2,026 open category seats, or 59.87 %, had been allotted to meritorious candidates belonging to the reserved categories. In comparison, the corresponding figure for the 2025–26 academic year was 981 seats, accounting for 51.57 %, he said.
Dr. Sai Sudheer rejected allegations by certain individuals that the implementation of G.O. 102, issued the previous year, had resulted in injustice to the reserved category students in the admissions.
The Registrar clarified that when meritorious candidates from the reserved categories secure admission under the open category and subsequently vacate their seats, those vacancies must be filled by candidates from the respective reserved categories in accordance with the prescribed rules. He said the university followed this procedure.
In addition, he noted that admissions must be provided to the SC, ST and BC candidates under the reservation provisions enshrined in the Constitution.
Dr. Sai Sudheer clarified that the seats under the Meritorious Reserved Category (MRC) were allotted in accordance with the prescribed rules and the web options submitted by the reserved category candidates during the admission process.
He said the university had also brought this position to the notice of the State High Court recently. Expressing concern over the continued spread of misinformation, while the matter was under consideration by the High Court, the Registrar said such attempts were inappropriate.
Despite the university conducting the admission process strictly and transparently in accordance with established rules and regulations, certain individuals were deliberately spreading false information and attempting to create confusion among students, parents and the public, he said.
The Registrar urged those involved to refrain from spreading misleading information about the MBBS seat allocation process.
