The Food Safety department has shut down five food establishments in Kasaragod district after inspections revealed food safety violations at units manufacturing fried snacks and other food products. The licences of two establishments and the registrations of three others were suspended.

The inspections were conducted as part of Operation Thelima 2.0, a Statewide initiative to ensure food safety. Two special squads were formed in the district to carry out the inspections.

The drive began at 7 a.m. and focused primarily on food manufacturing units in the Melparamba and Cherkala areas.

Kasaragod District Food Safety Assistant Commissioner Sangeeth S. and Food Safety Officers Anoop Joseph, Adithyan P.B., Nimisha P.M., Rakhi B., Lineesha K.A. and Rolvin Prasanna Pera participated in the drive.

Mr. Sangeeth said legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act would be initiated against establishments found violating food safety regulations.
