The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad has witnessed a rise in patient footfall over the past month, with more than 5,000 patients accessing various services at the hospital daily.
According to statistics shared by the hospital, NIMS recorded 5,635 outpatient (OP) patients in a single day recently — the highest daily OP attendance recorded in the recent period. The hospital had earlier received around 3,500 OP patients a day.
The Diagnostics and Investigations Department also recorded a high volume of patients, with 5,088 people undergoing various investigations in a single day. As many as 306 patients were admitted as inpatients (IP) on the same day.
The Emergency Department too witnessed an increase in admissions. While around 50 patients were admitted through emergency services each day earlier, the number has now risen to around 80 to 90 patients a day.
The hospital authorities attributed the increase in footfall to the availability of advanced medical facilities, specialist doctors and tertiary healthcare services at NIMS. The rise in patient numbers, they said, reflects growing public confidence in the institute’s healthcare services.
NIMS has also extended its outpatient registration timings to facilitate access to treatment. Earlier, OP registration was available from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., while registration is now available until 2 p.m.
The hospital has also been providing diagnostic investigation reports on the same day wherever feasible. The authorities said the faster availability of reports has improved convenience for patients and helped streamline their treatment.
