The Southern Railway has ordered an inquiry into the derailment of seven goods wagons at a yard near Jolarpet Railway Station in Tirupattur.

Railway officials said that seven wagons got derailed for around 400 metres, when the train was being moved from a loop line to the main line in the yard near the railway station.

Railway officials said that no untoward incident happened as the route towards Bengaluru, where the derailment occurred, had less traffic movement. The incident occurred around 7.15 p.m. on November 1.

Railway officials said that the Bengaluru SBC to Jolarpet JTJ MEMU train was short-terminated at Somanayakkanpti Railway Station in Tirupattur. Senior officials and engineering crews from the Salem and Chennai railway divisions immediately rushed to the spot to restore train services, which resumed around 12.30 a.m. on November 1.

This is the second incident after five wagons of an empty goods train, coming from Chennai port, derailed at Kethandapatti village near Jolarpet Railway Station in November, 2024.
