PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Monday demanded that the State government extend 2.5% reservation to students of government-aided schools in medical college admissions, just as government school students had been provided 7.5% reservation.
In a statement, Dr. Anbumani said that poor and disadvantaged students studying in government-aided schools were being denied social justice in admissions to medical courses.
“Given that the social and economic circumstances of students in government and government-aided schools are broadly similar, the time has come to extend social justice to students of government-aided schools without affecting the interests of government school students,” he said.
Dr. Anbumani added that the State government must take appropriate steps to provide a separate 2.5% reservation to students studying in government-aided schools.
“The demand to extend the same measure of social justice to students of government-aided schools has been raised consistently over the past five years. More than five years have passed since the introduction of the 7.5% reservation. The government must also examine the extension of this reservation benefit to students of government-aided schools,” he said.
