Cyclonic Storm Murasu is very likely to intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over west-central Bay of Bengal around Monday (November 2) morning.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Amaravati, it will cross south Andhra Pradesh coast with wind speed of 110-120 kmph between Nellore and Narsapur at 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday (November 3).

In view of the cyclone warning, SPSR Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla has urged the public to remain extremely vigilant, as the district is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. The cyclone is likely to make landfall between Kavali and Kandukuru sometime between the evening of Monday and midnight, as a result of which the district may experience heavy rains.

People in Kavali town its surrounding areas have been advised to remain highly vigilant as the impact of the cyclone is expected to be felt across the region — stretching from Nellore city to Gudur. The Collector urged residents in these areas to take precautions, particularly those living in low-lying and coastal regions. He has urged them to stay alert and relocate well in advance to the safe zones established in the district.

He also advised the public to avoid stepping out during heavy rains and strong winds unless absolutely necessary and to stay away from electricity poles and downed power lines. Those living in thatched huts, old, dilapidated structures, or houses with mud walls should relocate to safer areas in advance. Fishermen have also been strictly instructed not to venture into the sea for fishing.

Mr. Shukla directed the officials from Animal Husbandry department, along with livestock owners, to take proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of cattle, goats, and sheep.

He informed that a 24-hour control room has been established at the Collectorate to provide emergency services to the public. In case of any emergencies, people can contact 0861-2331261 or 7995576699. In the view of the cyclone, schools and colleges will be closed on Monday.

Similarly, Prakasam District Collector P. Raja Babu also released emergency contact numbers 18004250277 and 08592-295600, and urged the public to stay cautious during the cyclone alert.
