Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national vice-president Ram Madhav on Thursday (November 5, 2026) asserted that the party is the only “viable and undisputed” alternative to the Congress government in Telangana, accusing Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of neglecting governance and focusing excessively on visits to Delhi.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP State office in Hyderabad, Mr. Madhav alleged that the Congress government had “failed on multiple fronts” and said the BJP would intensify its campaign against what he termed “corruption, policy failures and maladministration” by the ruling party.
“We will take these issues to the grassroots level and expose the Congress government before the people. The BJP will further strengthen its agitations, and it is certain that the party will come to power in Telangana by 2028,” he claimed.
Mr. Madhav also defended the Election Commission of India’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and accused the Congress Party of spreading “misinformation” about the exercise. The voters list revision is a “routine process” aimed at ensuring the integrity of electoral rolls, he insisted.
He maintained that electoral roll revisions were undertaken periodically since Independence and that it is the Election Commission’s responsibility to remove duplicate, deceased, relocated and ineligible voters from the rolls
“The Congress Party’s anxiety over the SIR exercise stems from its desire to protect votes of illegal immigrants. Unable to accept electoral defeats, it is attempting to undermine democratic institutions by casting doubts on the Election Commission, electronic voting machines and the electoral process itself,” he alleged.
Citing a statement made by former Union Home Minister Indrajit Gupta in Parliament about “1.2 crore illegal immigrants”, Mr. Madhav alleged that Congress was creating an “unnecessary uproar” over the SIR process for political reasons. He also dismissed the Congress Party’s demand for a return to ballot papers, arguing that the party had suffered defeats even in elections conducted using paper ballots, including recent local body and MLC elections.
The BJP leader claimed that several leaders who once championed such an alternative, including Mamata Banerjee, Naveen Patnaik and Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, had lost power, while main opposition party in Telangana, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party, has become an “iron leg”, he remarked.
