Nationalist Congress Party (SP) MP Supriya Sule has said on Friday (November 6) that her father, Sharad Pawar, the party chief, is recovering and would be discharged from Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday morning (November 7).
He could be discharged at 11 a.m. on Saturday, she told PTI.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee spoke to her over phone to inquire about her father's health, Ms. Sule added.
Mr. Pawar, 85, was undergoing treatment for respiratory problems and chest infection.
He was admitted to Pune's Ruby Hall Clinic on November 2. After being discharged on November 4, he was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday visited Mr. Pawar in the hospital.
“He (Pawar) is doing very well. There is no reason to worry.... He is in good condition, and his willpower is strong,” Mr. Shinde said while talking to reporters.
Mr. Shinde said that during the hospital visit, Mr. Pawar enquired about the drought situation in the State, particularly Satara — both prominent politicians have their ancestral roots in the western Maharashtra district.
The Deputy CM, who heads the ruling coalition ally Shiv Sena, maintained the former Union agriculture minister was sensitive to the drought situation, where 304 talukas are facing a severe water scarcity due to a deficient monsoon this year.
The Shiv Sena chief insisted no political inference should be drawn from the meeting with Pawar, a prominent Opposition politician.
