The Tamil Nadu government has appointed three Special Public Prosecutors to conduct the trial in the cases booked against Gem Granites owner R. Veeramani under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

In an order issued on Friday, the State Government said considering the sensitive and complex nature of the cases, K.R. Sankaran, M. Sandhiya and Swami Subramanian were appointed as Special Public Prosecutors under Section 31(1) of the Act to conduct prosecution of the case investigated by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Mr Veeramani and his associates are facing seven cases under the POCSO Act and one case of abetment to suicide of a minor in 2004.

Police sources said that the investigation in at least two cases was in the final stages of completion and chargesheets were likely to be filed next week.

(Assistance for overcoming suicidal thoughts is available on the State’s health helpline 104, Tele-MANAS 14416. and Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044-24640050)
