The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday, October 6, arrested a senior accountant attached to the Sub-Divisional Treasury Office in Achampet of Nagarkurnool district for allegedly demanding and accepting ₹25,000 bribe to process a government employee’s medical leave and related bills and allowances.
According to the ACB, the accused officer, K. Venkataiah, allegedly demanded ₹25,000 from the complainant in return for doing the official favour. The complainant initially paid ₹3,000 in cash on August 14. The remaining ₹22,000 was subsequently transferred to the accused through PhonePe on August 18..
A case of criminal misconduct was registered against Venkataiah and he was produced before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand. The case is under investigation.
The ACB has urged members of the public to report demands for bribes by public servants through its toll-free number 1064. Complaints can also be made through the ACB’s WhatsApp number 9440446106 and its social media platforms.
