A single judge’s direction to the State government to relieve IPS officer A.V. Ranganath from the post of HYDRAA Commissioner, which was suspended by a division Bench of the Telangana High Court two months ago, has been extended till further orders.

A Bench of Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya and Justice Renuka Yara, passing interim directions in two contempt appeals filed by A.V. Ranganath, also vacated earlier direction of the Bench restraining the HYDRAA Commissioner from interfering with the possession of a land by M/s Shanta Sriram Constructions Private Limited at Lothkunta in Medchal Malkajgiri district. The earlier order to the construction company to maintain status quo vis-a-vis the land was also vacated.

A single judge of the High Court passed an order on July 27 directing the government to relieve the IPS officer from the post of HYDRAA Commissioner following a contempt of court case filed by the construction company stating that the HYDRAA Commissioner and his staff illegally interfered in the matter despite specific orders from the High Court.

On September 1, 2026, a division bench of the High Court suspended the single judge order. The two contempt appeals filed by Ranganath were posted to January 20, 2027, for hearing.
