The Telangana Rythu Sangham urged the Central government to ensure a remunerative price of ₹12,000 per quintal for cotton farmers and direct the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to undertake commercial procurement whenever market prices exceed the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

A delegation of the association’s Warangal district committee submitted a memorandum to the General Manager of CCI in Warangal on Tuesday, seeking immediate intervention to address the problems faced by cotton farmers across Telangana.

Speaking on the occasion, Telangana Rythu Sangham State convener Somidi Srinivas said cotton farmers were facing severe financial difficulties following a decline in crop yields due to unfavourable weather conditions and inadequate rainfall this season.

He alleged that private traders were exploiting growers by offering different prices for cotton of similar quality.

Questioning the role of CCI in protecting farmers’ interests, he demanded that the corporation undertake commercial procurement when prevailing market prices were higher than the MSP instead of leaving farmers dependent entirely on private traders.

Mr. Srinivas demanded that the Central government intervene immediately to protect cotton growers from exploitation and ensure that they received remunerative prices for their produce.
