The Department of Architecture at Sharnbasva University has begun mapping the historical Sharanabasveshwar Shrine and the Mahamane (Dasoha) as part of World Architecture Day, in Kalaburagi city. The faculty members and students of the department, guided by senior architects including Ajai Chandran C.K., a renowned architect and senior professor in the School of Architecture at Christ University, Bengaluru, and senior architect Kalyani, took up the mapping of the shrine and its complex, including the Mahamane, which has its own place in the history. The 18th-century Saint Sharanabasaveshwar, who made “Dasoha”, providing free food to the needy as a way of life in the region, had stayed in Mahamane in Kalaburagi till his last breath and the unique lamp “Nanda Deepa” lit by the saint before his death 250 years back still glows in the Mahamane. On February 26, 1927, Mahatma Gandhi also visited Mahamane to meet the 7th Peetadipathi of the samasthan, Poojya Doddappa Appa, to express his anguish and condemn the attack on the Sharanabasveshwar Shrine by the Razaakars. Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha president Dakshayani S. Appa, who is also the Chancellor of the Sharnbasva University, signalled the beginning of the mapping of the shrine and Mahamane in the presence of the secretary of the sangha Basavaraj Deshmukh, Dean of the Architecture Department Ajai Chandran, and faculty members Vaibhav Kumar Navani, Pallavi Patil, Gautam, Siddaling Manthale, and others. Ms. Appa and Mr. Deshmukh released the “Architecture Magazine 2025-26”, which detailed various activities taken up by the department. The mapping has been taken up as part of the six-day-long workshop “Measured Drawing and Documentation Workshop”.
