At least three women were killed and three others were injured after a heap of coal collapsed at Central Coalfield Limited’s (CCL) Kathara colliery in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district on Thursday (November 5, 2026), a senior official said.

The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Kathara police outpost in Bokaro around 5 a.m.

“Six people were injured after a coal pile collapsed at Kathara. Three of them succumbed to their injuries,” Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha told PTI.

The deceased were identified as Kaushlya Devi, Pushpa Devi and Sohri Devi.

Bermo Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ravindra Singh said some village women were collecting coal from a coal heap when it collapsed.

“The injured were admitted to a hospital,” he said.

A CCL official said it was a case of coal theft.
