Traffic regulations will be in place in Aluva from October 28, 2026, to November 6, 2026, as the old Marthanda Varma Bridge will be closed for maintenance work.
Thus, all heavy vehicles travelling from Thrissur to Ernakulam should divert at Irinjalakuda and proceed via Kodungallur, North Paravur and Cheranalloor. Heavy vehicles travelling from Thrissur to Aluva must divert at Angamaly and take the Kalady-Perumbavoor road. Similarly, heavy vehicles travelling from Vyttila to Aluva must proceed towards Cheranalloor and take the North Paravur-Kodungallur road. Heavy vehicles from Kalamassery and Angamaly will not be permitted to travel towards Aluva during this period, says a release.
Buses and other heavy vehicles from Varapuzha and Kadungallur must turn at Kadungallur Junction and proceed to Aluva via UC College Road and North Paravur. Heavy vehicles travelling in the opposite direction must turn left at Thottakattukara Junction and proceed to Kadungallur. Traffic will not be permitted on the NH service road leading to Thottakattukara.
Smaller vehicles will be permitted to travel in either direction across the new Marthanda Varma Bridge, while a one-way system will be introduced in Aluva town if necessary. Those travelling to the airport should start their journeys well in advance, anticipating traffic restrictions. The public is advised to rely on public transport to reduce congestion, the release says.
