District Collector A. Shyam Prasad on Friday (September 25, 2026) said that Sri Sathya Sai district would play a pivotal role in transforming Rayalaseema into a global horticulture hub. Addressing a review meeting with Agriculture and Horticulture officials, the Collector said that the Integrated Horticulture Development Plan (IHDP) would be implemented vigorously, as it remained an ambitious programme of the State government. He said that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu would officially inaugurate the plan at Madanapalle on October 2. The initiative, branded as “Global Horticulture Hub – Rayalaseema Rising,” would boost farmers’ income through better market linkages, processing, value addition, and exports. Under the plan, Sri Sathya Sai district proposes to develop 1,85,991 hectares of horticulture crops across 23 clusters covering 348 Rythu Seva Kendras, benefiting 2,85,462 farmers at an estimated cost of ₹1,600.41 crore. Of this, ₹710.70 crore is earmarked for micro-irrigation across 78,967 hectares and ₹436.73 crore for high-value crops on 72,789 hectares. “The strategy focuses on farm-to-market development, quality planting material, modern cultivation, mechanisation, grading, packing, processing, and strengthening FPOs. Around 58,000 farmers will be covered under awareness and capacity-building programmes,” the Collector said, urging farmers to participate in cluster-level discussions on September 29, a tractor rally on September 30, and cultural events on October 1 ahead of the launch.

The Centenary of Dalit Temple Entry, an event to commemorate 100 years of the entry of Dalits into the Tiruchanoor Temple, will be held from October 11 to 13 in Tirupati. Addressing a press conference here, senior Congress leader from Andhra Pradesh and former MP for Tirupati Chinta Mohan said that on October 13, 1925, Murugan, a Dalit, entered the temple and offered arati, and was subsequently jailed. He was later released after C. Rajagopalachari, on knowing about the incident, came to Tirupati to argue his case and secured his acquittal. Later, in a historic move Mahatma Gandhi too staged a satyagraha in front of the Tiruchanoor temple along with 33 Dalit persons and ensured their entry into the temple. Dr. Mohan said leaders of various organisations and parties have been invited for the event. The former Union Minister accused theBJP-led Union government of rushing through the Delimitation Bill, stating that it would do injustice to southern States. He said the move could create an imbalance between North and South India and may lead to unrest. He said Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru and others of the Constituent Assembly had fixed the number of Lok Sabha seats after much thought. He accused the SC, ST Finance Corporation in Andhra Pradesh of doing little for the welfare of Dalits.
