The inaugural India edition of L’Etape by Tour de France held in Mysuru on Sunday saw two visually impaired cyclists participating in the event.

Both cyclists from Yashas Para Sports Academy completed their ride on tandem bicycles, each accompanied by a sighted guide, said a press statement issued by the organisers.

“They participated in the 20 km Family Fun Ride. Their participation was among the many stories that made the inaugural edition memorable,” said an organiser.

Another participant drawing attention was Tameem Ansari, who lost his right hand in an accident in 2003. “An endurance cyclist, insurance advisor and volunteer with organisations supporting people with disabilities, Ansari completed the course riding without his right hand on the handlebar. Taking on the Chamundi Hills climb was another milestone in his journey as a cyclist,” the organisers said in the statement.

Speaking after the ride, Mr. Ansari said, “This has been a great morning for me. I had a wonderful time participating in the L’Etape Mysuru and look forward to participating in the coming years.”
