A veterinary assistant surgeon attached to the veterinary dispensary at Koonimedu near Marakkanam in Villupuram district has been placed under suspension after a video of him verbally abusing and threatening a farmer went viral on social media.
According to an official, S. Chandru, of Ambedkar Nagar in Koonimedu, had brought his cow to the Koonimedu veterinary dispensary for treatment. When he enquired about the availability of the doctor at the dispensary for subsequent visits, the exchange escalated, with the assistant veterinary surgeon Sankaranarayanan allegedly abusing the farmer.
Shouting at Chandru, the veterinary assistant surgeon ordered him to get out of the dispensary. A video of the incident soon went viral, prompting the Department of Animal Husbandry to act.
Taking cognisance of the incident, the Director of Animal Husbandry ordered the immediate suspension of Sankaranayaranan. Joint Director of Animal Husbandry T. Mohan said that a team visited Koonimedu on Saturday (October 31, 2026) and served the suspension order on the official.
