A wellness hub for gig workers to rest as part of the State government’s 100-day action programme was inaugurated on Wednesday (September 23, 2026). Mayor V.K. Minimol inaugurated the facility.
Ms. Minimol assured all assistance to the hub launched by the Labour department. The centre has been established with the objective of providing safe rest facilities and basic welfare amenities to gig workers engaged in sectors such as online food delivery, e-commerce, and ride-hailing services.
Several facilities, including seating, toilets, Wi-Fi, and charging points, have been arranged at the centre. The Labour department has also appointed two staff each for two shifts to manage its operations. The rest centre will function in two shifts, from 8.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. and from 3.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.
Kochi Corporation works standing committee chairperson T.K. Asharaf presided. Ernakulam Regional Joint Labour Commissioner Suresh Kumar, District Labour Officer (General) Minoy James, and District Labour Officer (Enforcement) Jahfar Sadiq T.A. were present.
