YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders on Friday accused the State Election Commission (SEC) of ignoring complaints of electoral irregularities and acting as an extension of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) headquarters.

A delegation comprising MLC Lella Appi Reddy and State Legal Cell president Manohar Reddy met State Election Commissioner and submitted a representation seeking action against alleged electoral violations ahead of the elections.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Appi Reddy said the party had submitted hundreds of complaints, backed by video and audio evidence, but the SEC had failed to act despite polling being just two days away. He alleged that nearly 150 police personnel were functioning as TDP activists and that police and revenue officials were colluding to prevent candidates from filing nominations.

Citing incidents in Macherla and Ongole, he alleged that polling agent forms had been torn inside Returning Officers’ rooms. He also claimed that voter slips had not been distributed in parts of Kadapa, Pulivendula and Kurnool, while TDP leaders were distributing money and threatening beneficiaries with the withdrawal of pensions.

Questioning the security arrangements, Mr. Appi Reddy said only 36,351 police personnel had been deployed for 12,224 polling booths, against 60,000 to 70,000 personnel in previous elections. He further claimed that nearly 7,000 booths lacked CCTV cameras and webcasting facilities despite court directions.

He demanded an inquiry into all complaints, disclosure of vulnerable polling stations and adequate security for candidates. Warning that the party would approach the Supreme Court over the alleged irregularities, he appealed to voters to exercise their franchise.
